JesseJackson Jr ( not his dad) needs his nuts cut off.

<

I don't why people are tripping over Jesse Jackson Sr remarks. It's just an off the cuff private comment. I did not read it as the man hates Obama and wants to have harm come upon him.  But the larger point is ---why is his son speaking about his father in the national press with such disrespect. Like him or not Jesse Jackson is an iconic civil rights leader in this country.

Regardless---to disrespect your father openly? I think Jr needs his nuts cut off.

Jessi Jr  comment:

"I'm deeply outraged and disappointed in Reverend Jackson's reckless statements about Senator Barack Obama. His divisive and demeaning comments about the presumptive Democratic nominee -- and I believe the next president of the United States -- contradict his inspiring and courageous career," wrote Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.), an Obama campaign co-chairman, in a statement sent out after word began spreading that his father had said something crude and deeply offensive.

The bold-faced text was his own. "Instead of tearing others down, Barack Obama wants to build the country up and bring people together so that we can move forward, together -- as one nation. The remarks like those uttered on Fox by Reverend Jackson do not advance the campaign's cause of building a more perfect Union."

Speaking of inartful statements. Time is reporting on JAY-Z part deux moment and I hope not the next PUMA rally war cry (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/09/obama-references-lil-wayn_n_111621.html) :

Barack Obama crossed the pop culture/politics divide today by praising Lil' Wayne's rhyming ability at a campaign event in Powder Springs, Georgia.

Take the lyrics of Lollipop, the aforementioned song which, if you have not yet heard on the radio, then your children certainly have. As is the habit of most modern Hip Hop, it is a song of sexual conquest, with Lil' Wayne boasting of his ability to attract women and enjoy their company. Not so interesting, you think? Check out this set of lyrical couplets:

I get her on top / She drop it like it's hot
And when I'm at the bottom / She Hillary Rodham

On CNN today Gergen and his gang seemed to think
this would help Obama. It is Obama's stance that too many Black fathers are "missing in action" meanwhile Jealous Jessie doesn't want Obama to "talk down" to Black people. This will help Obama because most people agree with his POV. Thanks Jessie and AK

Your a joke... (2.00 / 5)

Obama compliments Lil' Wayne's rhyming ability and so he must agree with all of his lyrics....Using this logic when Hillary praised Jack Nicholson on his "dedication to his craft" she must have agreed to his womanizing and boozing behavior as well. Pathetic.

pathetic (none / 0)

why is his son speaking about his father in the national press with such disrespect.
That's a good question. It's really sad to see. I realize that Jr most likely had no choice but to address the controversy; he could have just said something like...my Father is entitled to his own opinion. I guess he didn't mind throwing his own father under the bus.

by soyousay on Thu Jul 10, 2008 at 07:11:40 AM EST

Re: pathetic (none / 0)

"My father is entitled to his own opinion on whether or not Senator Obama deserves to have his nuts cut off"?

That's basically what you're asking him to say. Jackson, speaking around a microphone he didn't realize was on (which, seriously, when will people start treating microphones like guns and always treat them as armed), said that Obama was talking down to black people and he wanted to cut his nuts off. The first half could be a valid point of discussion, but the second half is what Jackson apologized for and Jesse Jr. issued the statement about.

"Rev. Jackson is my dad and I'll always love him," Jackson Jr. said in a statement. "He should know how hard that I've worked for the last year and a half as a national co-chair of Barack Obama's presidential campaign. So, I thoroughly reject and repudiate his ugly rhetoric. He should keep hope alive and any personal attacks and insults to himself."

Harsh? Yeah. But Jackson Sr.'s remarks were as well, and I'm not particularly concerned that the Jackson family Thanksgiving dinner will be awkward. Jackson Sr. realized that, before the comments even aired, he made a huge mistake; Jackson Jr. really didn't have any choice in publicly responding. The nature of both their positions made this a public issue and they both responded as one would expect (and both are experienced enough to understand that this is political, not personal).

I don't see anyone hauling Jackson off to jail. Most people realize that he seriously didn't mean that; apparently you didn't. Furthermore, Jackson wasn't speaking openly in front of the media, he thought his conversation was private.

Heh...I can't believe I'm defending Jackson in reference to this issue but if it were John Doe, I would do the same.

Re: pathetic (none / 0)

Furthermore, Jackson wasn't speaking openly in front of the media, he thought his conversation was private.

He was sitting on camera. Wearing a mic. In front of Fox News.

For the record, I don't believe that we should make sure Rev. Jackson doesn't come near Sen. Obama with a pair of scissors. But just because the statement wasn't a literal thread doesn't mean we should take a "my Father is entitled to his own opinion" viewpoint on a statement that was clearly egregious.

What is really deplorable. . . (none / 0)

I agree that Jesse Jackson's comments were ill considered and deplorable, but for a son to publicly upbraid his father in such devastating fashion. . .that's just too much for me.

No matter how repugnant your father's (or mother's, or brother's, or sister's) behavior is, you don't call him out in the manner that Jesse Jr. did. He may want Barack Obama to be his president, but the Reverend is still his father and deserves more love and respect than he received from his eldest yesterday.

If I've lost respect for anyone in this sorry mess, its for the congressman from the Illinois 2nd.

Re: JesseJackson Jr ( not his dad) needs his nuts (none / 0)

Jesse Sr is the one with the illegitimate kids. It's neither Jr nor Obama that need their nuts cut off.

I am not outraged by anything these days. The outrageouso meter is getting way too much work these days. So Jesse Sr. said something stupid. Big deal. I am more concerned why Jesse was stupid enough to say it with a FOX News camera crew. He has been in politics long enough to know that the mikes would pick up even off the cuff whispers. I have a feeling that Jesse sometimes is addicted to being the center of attention. He has done a lot of good, but discretion is not one of his virtues.

Jesse Jackson Jr. breaks 5th Commandment! (none / 0)

Far from Honoring his Mother and Father, Mr. Jackson is Mis-Honoring his Father in the most egregious bit of Non-Honoring of Parental Units since Cain killed Abel and told his Dad that his Brother Pretty Much Deserved It.

Like that Biblical forbearer, this man will be given the Mark of Jesse and be cast out to roam the Illinois 2nd District unseen by the Eyes of God.  Any ill that befalls him will be visited sevenfold upon the ill-er.
